Klimo Library

One activity from International Week was visiting the Klimo Library. This is named after Bishop Klimo who was appointed by Maria Theresa to come to Pecs. He worked diligently in collecting books for the struggling university.

The library is impressive. On the table in this photo are books in which the lists of books and their locations were recorded. Later came card catalogs which now present university students don't even know about. I really enjoyed looking at the old maps. These came from the early 1700s. Europeans had South America quite figured out along with the southern shore of North America, but the remainder of North America was a great mystery. The drawings have nothing much to do with the present understanding of North America. We need to remember is was 100 years later when Louis and Clark set out to truly explore the interior of North America.

Here is an example of a book with a copyright of 1784.

And the natural history exhibit was fun, too. It was a treat to see these very old books and references. Now please see news about Villany wine below. It was an interesting late afternoon and evening.
