Moving to Hungary

On Saturday we among the lucky to sleep late at language camp at Zakopane. Pani Dryktor took us to the airport in Krakow since our plane didn't leave about 15:30, while others were leaving at 9:55. We flew with Czech Airlines first to Prague and then to Budapest, arriving into our hotel about 7 PM. We ate a quick evening meal and then crashed to sleep.

It was quite a change to move from the unusually cool and rainy weather of Zakopane-- days when we had seen temperature numbers such as 10 to an evening temperature of 35 in Budapest.

This morning we took a tram ride to the newly named Szent Kalman Ter (used to be Moskova Ter and everything there is in the process of being re-signed to the new name). Then we took the 16A bus to the Castle area on the  Buda side. It was so hot that we spent a very limited time sightseeing.

We then went to the West End Shopping Center. What would a teenager like better than shopping? And besides it is air-conditioned! My granddaughter got a few things off her shopping list.

We came back about 2:00 and retreated to the air-conditioning of our room.

In the evening we enjoyed a wonderful dinner right here in the hotel. My granddaughter is reviewing pasta with shrimp in every country she visits -- and finding all those dishes very good. She also enjoyed the black olive spread that came with the bread.

After the sunset she was in a mood to go somewhere, so we took the Metro to Batthany Ter to see the Parliament from the Buda side. This square also has some beautiful buildings which are lit to show their architectural features. It was a good evening field trip.

P.S. Later I learned that this day temperature set a record, the hottest July 10 in 90 years in Budapest!
