The weather continued to be awful, making out door recreation unpleasant, but more importantly dangerous. It is not possible to do something such as climb Giewont under these very wet conditions. Therefor our Polish host developed a plan to do something indoors.
We were all in the lobby gathering to board the bus by 8 AM on Tuesday, when our usual schedule is only to have made it to breakfast by 8 AM.
We drove into Slovakia about 2 hours, and while riding we scattered ourselves out among the students so they could continue English conversations. We went to the Demoanvska Jaskyna Slobody cave. (Again I can't write all the letters correctly in the name using the word processing service within a blog.) As one of my colleague volunteers said, "This is a world class attraction." Carlsbad Caverns in the United States is the only other thing I can think of that is of the same scale.
Here are a couple of photos:
After our cave tour we drove a short distance to a mountain resort area. The plan was to take the chair lift partly up the mountain and then hike, but alas the lift was not operating because of windy conditions.
So the guide decided we would go to the nearby town of Lipvotsky and tour the market area. Oh, problems again. Tuesday was a national holiday in Slovakia and so nothing was open!
We did however find a concert and enjoyed some of that.
After these adventures we headed back to Zakopane and went to the bowling area. This is in the new Hotel Bukovina and as one of my students said, "...is very modern."
We returned to the hotel about 7 PM, hungry! The hotel staff had obiad rather the kolacja, and were most grateful for a good bowl of soup to start the evening meal.
Continued adventures later. Must run off to a meeting.
